DIALOGUE EXCERPT
“How did I get here. Ligaya? I followed you. I’d follow you anywhere. Even if I don’t understand why we have to go to these places? Are these the only places we end up in? You made me believe there’s a good world out there. But is this all the world we deserve? These lost, decrepit, hopeless, nowhere to go places. And who am I to think I could save you from them? How many times have we seen our story get told and retold? How many times have we passed through here? Nothing changes. I follow and I'm always too late. But I’d still follow you. I’d follow you anywhere. And maybe the next time the story gets retold, and it will, maybe the next time I follow you, I’d have done enough that I can change how it ends.” – KONTRA MADIAGA

Ely Buendia rushed to Makati Med..update =]
The Eraserheads reunion concert on Saturday night at the Bonifacio Global City Open Field was cut short after lead singer Ely Buendia suffered "emotional and physical stress."
Concert organizers and friends rushed Buendia to the Makati Medical Center, where he was reported to be in stable condition.
In a text message to GMANews.TV, Dok Sergio, bassist of Buendia's new band Pupil, said: "Ely is fine. Don't worry."
The Erasherheads opened the concert at 8:15 p.m. with their hit song “Alapaap" and proceeded to play classics such as “Ligaya," “Wag Mo Nang Itanong," “Fruitcake," among others.
More than 10 songs were played to eager fans at The Fort and around 9:30 p.m. the band took a 30-minute break. Forty minutes later, Buendia’s sister went up to the stage to break the sad news.
"We regret to inform you that we have to cut the concert short. My brother had to be rushed to hospital because of emotional and physical stress he is experiencing," said Buendia's sister Lali to concert-goers.
Fans said that in the middle of the reunion concert, Buendia stopped playing his guitar. They said the lead singer sat on the floor and bowed his head. Then the stage lights went out.
In 2007, Buendia suffered a heart attack while his new band Pupil was performing in Laguna.
The Eraserheads was a popular Pinoy rock band of the 1990s formed by Buendia, Raimund Marasigan, Buddy Zabala and Marcus Adoro.

Animahenasyon: Pinoy Animation Festival 2008 =]
A Bigger, Better Animahenasyon Festival!!!
We are at it again! said this year's Animahenasyon Festival Programmer Ricky Orellana. We are once again inviting professional and amateur/student Filipino animators to join the 2nd Animahenasyon 2008:Pinoy Animation Festival. The event, which is spearheaded by the Animation Council of the Philippines, Inc., is now on its second year and the organizers are promising to give local animation enthusiasts a broader and better program. Definitely, the scope is bigger this year, Orellana said. We want to give festival-goers a larger view of what Philippine animation by screening earliest works done by animation masters. According to Orellana, last year's festival has seen a lot of professional animators asking for advanced workshops. That's why this time there will be master classes for professionals and enthusiasts. There will also be classes on visual storytelling, film language, production design, Asian and Japanese animation, and visual effects, he said. Last year's festival screened over 150 original Filipino animation works and featured a two-day conference with Filipino US-based animator Ronnie del Carmen of Pixar animation as guest of honor keynote speaker.
The support was overwhelming, said Orellana. We are thankful to the animators who submitted very accomplished works as well as to the movie-goers who went out of their way to watch the screenings. In fact, the week-long event was even extended for a longer run at the Indie Sine Robinson's Galeria. I thought that it was a very successful festival, said Del Carmen. I was very impressed with the animators. They were undaunted and courageous in pursuing their passion. In fact, so impressed was Del Carmen that he even agreed to give a talk in Naga for the regional extension of the festival. We have very accomplished animators, he said. These animators have contributed over the years to animated content the world over on very popular properties. If that isn't about being world-class, I don't know what is. We are known to be reliable and versatile, able to tackle the work and meld into what the project needs and get the job done.
Last year's festival really proved that there is a very active animation industry in the Philippines, said Orellana. And this year, we are hoping to have more participants and more original works. And just like last year, 2nd Animahenasyon 2008 will feature 10 categories: one minute up to five minutes; 6 minutes up to 20 minutes; 21 minutes up to 40 minutes; Full-animated feature (more than 40 minutes); music video; OBBs, TVCs, infomercials, demo reels; and TV series. All of them are open for professional and amateur/student animators. Some of the award-winning animation entries last year were Jeff Capili's Malaya (Best Animated Short, professional division), RJ Mabilin's WWII (Animated Music Video, professional division), Valroman Francisco's Pop (Animated Music Video, amateur division), and Anna Katrina Bigornia's My Pet (Viewers' Choice Award). The festival also honored the late Larry Alcala with a Lifetime Achievement Award. The deadline for the submission of entries is on October 8, 2008. For inquiries, call: 8172727 loc 108 or send an email to animationcouncil@gmail.com or visit ACPI's website www.animationcouncil.org.

"We are Artist"..BAHAG KINGS at Mogwai tonight =]
DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT BY WAY OF AN ELEGY
In "Bahag Kings", Elmo Redrico, aka Ka Elmo, continually exclaimed "We are artist!" while we were maliciously detained in the Cubao Police Station (Gateway) just because we were wearing indigenous Philippine clothing. "We are artist!" It was both plural and singular. It was funny and profound at the same time. "We are artist!" Ka Elmo repeated it aloud. Though I don't know if the security officers fully heard, if the passers-by really noticed, or if anyone, including us – his comrades, truly understood what he was trying to say. If he meant anything at all in the first place. But Ka Elmo still said it. Again and again. "We are artist!" Something for him to mouth when he still had one. Something for us to think about while our buddy parties into the Great Beyond.

OMG BAHAG KINGS..trailer, see you peeps later.. =]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmL6-qJcpCM
A group of tribal leaders from the jungle search the city like a hard rock band. Or is it a rock group looking for the jungle? The filmmaker was arrested for the film, together with his half naked kings. Funny, unpolished, musical and (hence) also a little bit political.
It looks like a joke that has got out of hand, a kind of contest: who dares walk the street wearing only a G-string? G-string Kings is indeed a cheerful and cheeky film, in the spirit of the other work by this most cheerful, cheekiest and certainly most productive of Filipino film makers, but it is not just a silly joke. Seven sturdy mature men dressed in no more than the bahag, the traditional string with loincloth as worn by the original inhabitants of the Philippines. It couldn't be more Filipino, so why should Filipinos get upset about it? Yet the cheerful procession is regarded as a provocation of good taste and even of good order. The film is a feature, made in the idiom of the silent film, but shot spontaneously on the street, like a documentary. The men go out into the world as kings: King Black, King Red, King Blue, King Yellow, King Green, King Purple and King Orange - seven rainbow kings (bahag-hari) with their ethnic G-string (bahag). They travel in a jolting van from the natural forests to the urban jungle. The Bahag Kings, descendants of noble rulers but also of village idiots, search all over for wala (nothing). In the end, they, along with the film maker, are arrested by the police. What was once traditional costume turns out to have become obscene.”

The Bahag Kings set off on a journey looking for something that could be nothing. As they search, the film delivers a sample of the Philippine urban landscape taken with a skewed surreal perception, as visual text prods philosophical inquisition. All this leads to a final discovery, but of what, even we cannot be sure. (Carljoe Javier)

E-heads concert, moi Consti Law prof, and smoking =]
salient information from gmanews.tv: http://www.gmanews.tv/story/115866/E-heads-concert-to-push-through-after-changes
The Eraserheads will push through, but with some major changes. Raimund Marasigan over the weekend confirmed that another company has taken over the production of the concert after Philip Morris decided to pull out. The event will now be held at The Fort in Taguig City, instead of the CCP open grounds as earlier announced.
With the pullout of Philip Morris from the concert's production, the registration procedures in the Red Nation website have been deemed void and that fans will now have to pay to attend the concert, and please note that itwill be open only to those aged 12 years old and above.
Earlier this month, the Department of Health and anti-tobacco group Framework Convention on Tobacco Control Alliance-Philippines warned Philip Morris against sponsoring the event.
Health Undersecretary Atty. Alexander Padilla [moi Constitution Law 2 professor] said Philip Morris will be violating Republic Act No. 9211 or the Tobacco Regulation Act of 2003 which prohibits cigar companies from sponsoring sports, cultural, and artistic events of individual or team athletes, artists and performers.
"If we are able to show and prove that this concert is actually sponsored by you, by Philip Morris, then we will truly train our guns on you for clearly violating the law," Padilla said in a press conference.
He said the tobacco company cannot argue that they did not violate the law since the contract has been signed before the prohibition on sponsorship of events took effect on July 1, 2008 as stated on Section 26 of RA 9211.
"The company already knew when the prohibition would take effect so if they will try to circumvent that by saying 'we signed the contract before' that will not be acceptable," Padilla said.
The Health Department and tobacco control advocates also appealed to Eraserheads to reject the Philip Morris' sponsorship of its much awaited reunion concert.
Padilla said the popular band, which disbanded in 2002, should disassociate themselves from a cigar company who will be sponsoring their concert.
"With their prestige, they should disassociate themselves to tobacco products which have no value or use. They should heed the law and bring the youth to other productive activities. Tobacco products should not be promoted," Padilla said.
"Considered one of the most influential bands in the country, the Eraserheads has become a role model of sorts for our young. I hope they will rise up to the challenge, do more than play music, and help young Filipinos reach their potential," said Dr. Maricar Limpin of the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control Alliance-Philippines. - GMANews.TV
Cops nab woman who poisons victims before robbing them
Not to cause any hype or paranoia regarding our "kasambahays" but better safe than sorry..I mean really, its bad enough that their means, methods, forms [criminal law rev hangover] and motives are bad but to cause such physical harm upon a person that may cause paralysis or death is alarming and purely evil in nature.
Observe the woman alleged as the mastermind..she doesn't even blink nor have any fear while stating their modus operandi.."atrocious" for lack of a better term.
So peeps, be safe, stay safe and Godbless =]

PUP Bar Operations..the 300 needs you =]
So I was attasked as an officer of the Student Council to find sponsors for this important event for our dear college of law..and yes, am asking you moi dear friends if you can help in any way. No shame in asking all for mo fellow PUPians.
If you don't know our school, haven't heard or worst doesn't know that we have a law department, well..can't blame you coz it's still a "baby" law school founded in 2001. But am proud to say that we have survived and have produced moral and ethical lawyers.
At present we are at number 16 of all the law schools in the country above MLQU, Lyceum, FEU [no offense meant po just stating the facts as circulated by the Supreme Court]. Our passing rate is 333.3% one of the highest again in the land..even if we have no complete set of SCRA [law reference books], no free internet/WIFI, no computers [sooo true], heck, we pass on our books or schedule them so that everyone can recite. Those who have pc's at home or can afford to buy books share them..no questions asked..yes, we are one [less than 300] family [teary-eyed] "eke the day" is more of "eke the semester"..so true.
I wish, hope and pray that we have an almost perfect society so that the marginalized may partake of education same with those who can afford private schools..but life is unfair and we have to face reality. Yes, we are a "state university" but we lack funds..ergo, what we do or contribute is gratis et amore. Experience is the best teacher and noone can better "help" than those who have "experienced" such struggle in all aspects regarding school life.
What I am saying is, please support us..every sunday of September..food, tables and chairs, tents, buy a PUP Bar Operations t-shirt, etc. in exchange for you dear folks, you may advertise on our bar site.
You must support, join and "experience" this glorious event in our lives..the mental, physical, spiritual "Olympics" of a law student's/gradute's/barrister's/lawyer's life. With open arms..I welcome you all. Its no joke, every year, every participant nor just an onlooker tells us that even just the "vibes" at the site is "incredible".
Enough said, am not ashamed to say am emotional regarding this..please dear friends, voulez vous?
Cheers =]
p.s.
pm moi for moi digits po, merci beaucoup =]

September..BAR exams eeeeeee... =]
Not to brag, but we have 33.3% passing rate..one of the highest in the country and to date, top 16 law school, above MLQU, FEU, etc. [pushing to be on the top ten list]. We started only in 2001 but have produced ethical and moral lawyers even if we're "poor" so to speak. We've come a long way..indeed "money" is not what it takes to succeed..nothing beats hard work, determination and prayers..lots and lots of prayers.
I am emotional when it comes to our college because as Dean De La Pena said yesterday, we are in the best position to "help" our fellow PUPians because we have "experienced" what it is to "lack", to "struggle", to "make do with"..to "book-alike", to "eat lugaw refills", to "endure" long lines in enrollment and paying tuitions..of being "poor".
Hard to get by when you were used to being in a "private" school so to speak. Culture shock was what welcomed me few years back. But you know what, it has taught me a lot of things..was a blessing I was hurled out of moi "comfort zone" so to speak. I learned to reason out, to speak my mind, to stand for what I believe in, to value money, to accept that in life there are no permanent enemies but just changing needs, to be a "boitch" hahahaha..that last part took years.
Anyhoo, I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. I just hope, wish and pray that the government would really support our education system..not just lip service. Darn politicians who just build, rebuild monuments/statues and "tile" roads just so they can leave a "legacy?" The most important legacy is to have "served" and it will be/is ingrained in the minds of the peeps whom have voted for you..even those who did not.
So to this year's batch of barristers I share to you moi motto..
"AUDE ALIQUID DIGNUM"..Dare things that are worthy..ONE PUP COLLEGE OF LAW..
Cheers =]
Museum trip tayo..Movie museum that is =]
From the actual "Machete" statue which was modellled after Cesar Montano of course, to the tiyanak "baby", to the costumes worn by Filipino movie stars..they have them there.
What's more is that they have a place of homage to great filipino directors and their works. From our living National Artist Direk Eddie Romero, Lamberto Javellana, etc. .. and of course, FPJ and ERAP photos and movies galore definite moi.
Tomorrow/today Agugust 20, 2008 is FPJ's birthday so his family and a few close friends will be there to "celebrate" his life, works, etc.
Anyone interested in the tour pm or text me.
Cheers =]

Moi Oath of Office =]
Oath of Office
So help me God.
We were so honoured to be graced by PUP President Guevarra who was so intent on personally meeting us. He says the PUP College of Law is very close to his heart because he believes that soon we can make a difference in a national, heck even international level in the field of law, economics, politics, environment, etc.
Indeed its not just lip service because from an old canteen which housed more or less three hundred law students, we have been transferred to the Ninoy Aquino Building..fully airconditioned, library newly renovated and new books to arrive soon..but the pice de resistance was the new College of Law building in the works.
After the quick but meaningful oath taking, we went with the official photographer to list our names and prolly ask for copies. A staff of the President came rushing shortly and told the photographer to print the pictures ASAP because the President wants copies pronto. Wow, major "moment"..pinch me please.
Back at the Dean's office we had pizza, cola and of course..coffee. We immediately asked questions and suggestions.."brainstormed" so to speak which the Dean really appreciated. We're "official" so now we have the authority to "serve"..especially since the bar operations/exams are due soon. More pictures, more laughs..just that it prolly would have been "nicer" if such peeps whom are not "officers" did not butt in and just ate away. Hmn, we're keeping our eyes on you.."posers".
So yeah, after hours..it finally dawned on me..OMG IF ONLY MOI PARENTS WERE STILL ALIVE..but life's not fair so I just have to live with it. Hoping that peeps who've gone ahead "really" can see those they've left behind and even for just one flickering moment..I FERVENTLY WISH THAT THEY ARE PROUD OF ME.
Cheers =]
